The Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) is seeking views and comments on the recently revised Duty of Care (DOC) Code of Practice.

The Duty of Care sets out the legal requirements for those dealing with household, commercial and industrial waste to produce, store, transport and dispose of these ‘controlled wastes’ safely and without causing harm to the environment.

The Code of Practice is designed to give simple and practical advice on how to meet the Duty of Care. It has been revised to take into account changes to legislation such as the requirement to treat waste in line with the waste hierarchy which have taken place since the current Code of Practice was produced.

Russell Hirst, Managing Director, Wiser Group says: “This is an opportunity for anyone producing or handling waste to have their say so we would encourage our clients across both Wiser Recycling and Wiser Environment to do so”

The consultation is open until 21st September. Find out more and share your views here.
